She refutes the assumptions that words should only play a minimal role in film, that "showing" is superior to "telling," or that the technique is inescapably authoritarian (the "voice of god"). She questions the common conception that voice-over is a literary technique by tracing its origins in the silent era and by highlighting the influence of radio, documentaries, and television. She explores how first-person or third-person narration really affects a film, in terms of genre conventions, viewer identification, time and nostalgia, subjectivity, and reliability. In conclusion she argues that voice-over increases film's potential for intimacy and sophisticated irony.

About the Author
Dr. Charles E. Bamford is the Dennis Thompson Chair of Entrepreneurial Leadership at Queens University of Charlotte. He earned his B.S. degree at the University of Virginia, an M.B.A. at Virginia Tech, and a Ph.D. in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the University of Tennessee. During a twelve-year span prior to pursuing his Ph.D., he held positions managing Business Analysis (Mergers and Acquisitions, Dispositions, and Small Business Consulting) for Dominion Bankshares Corporation (now Wells Fargo Corporation). His business career also included stints as Director of Corporate Training, Systems Analyst, COBOL programmer, and full-time instructor at Virginia Western Community College in the early 1980s. Dr. Bamford has taught courses in Strategic Management and Entrepreneurship at the undergraduate, graduate, and executive levels at universities in Scotland, Hungary, and the Czech Republic. Prior to joining Queens University, he held positions as an Associate Professor at Texas Christian University and at the University of Richmond. Dr. Bamford has won 14 teaching excellence awards during his career, including six Executive MBA Teacher of the Year Awards, and is a Noble Foundation Fellow in Teaching Excellence. In addition to authoring a best-selling business textbook, Dr. Bamford has published research in the Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Business Strategies, Journal of Technology Transfer, and Journal of Small Business Management.

Dr. Page West is Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship and the BB&T Fellow in Capitalism and Free Markets at Wake Forest University. He earned his B.A. in Economics at Hamilton College, an M.B.A. at The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College, and a Ph.D. in Strategic Management at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Prior to earning his Ph.D., Dr. West held positions in marketing and new business development for 17 years at consumer packaged goods companies including General Mills and Celestial Seasonings, and he consulted with Westinghouse and other technology companies. He also launched his own food manufacturing company, raised venture capital, and expanded the business to a national level. At Wake Forest, Dr. West has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in Strategic Management, Entrepreneurship, International Entrepreneurship, Capitalism and Free Markets, and Shakespeare on Management. He has also taught management in London, and he is a regular visiting faculty member at the École de Management in Bordeaux, France. Dr. West has won awards for innovative teaching three times and was recently named the most influential professor by Wake Forest business school alumni. His research focuses on top management teams and the evolution of strategy in new ventures, and he has published articles in the Journal of Management, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Technology Transfer, Journal of Small Business Management, and International Journal of Organizational Analysis.

About the Author
Paul Insel, PhD is Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine. He has been the principal investigator of numerous NIH studies involving health education, mental health, blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and nutrition. He has authored 14 books and more than 100 articles.

Walton T. Roth, M.D., is Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and Chief of the Psychiatric Consultation Service at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. He is author of over 150 research articles about how the body reacts to stress and psychological disorders. His clinical specialties are the treatment of anxiety disorders and psychiatric consultation in the general hospital.

Thomas D. Fahey, Ed.D., is professor of Kinesiology at California State University, Chico, where he teaches Exercise Physiology and Principles of Strength and Conditioning . He also volunteers as an assistant coach with the track and field team. He received his doctorate from the University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Fahey has written college textbooks and trade books on exercise physiology, wellness, athletic training, weight training, personal training, golf, and ergogenic aids. He has also written hundreds of articles for scholarly journals and popular magazines. He is a contributing editor and writes monthly research columns for Muscular Development, Fitness RX for Women and Fitness RX for Men magazines. His interests include travel, skiing, golf, tennis, weight training, hiking, and discus throwing. Dr. Fahey is a world-class masters discus thrower and was an All-American discus thrower in college. He won eleven straight US National Masters Championships, five medals at the World Masters Championships (including world champion in 2003), and three gold medals in the World Masters Games. He is a former competitor in powerlifting, highland games, alpine skiing, and tennis.

ebook lacks page number support / easy printing

This book is used for a 2 credit mandatory course.

I bought this ebook for my kindle because the real book was ridiculously more overpriced. After i bought it; amazon released actual page numbers, and found this book to not be compatible... ehh ok no big deal i can still search.

I had no idea how many of the labs my instructor wanted us all to "rip" out of our book and fill out + turn in. I downloaded kindle for PC and found no easy way to print. was left to either make xerox copies (old school) from someone else's book or rip out the DRM and then save the book as html.

Before you but this in ebook make sure your instructor is not asking you to fill out every last chart (there are plenty).

I bought the book from Amazon Prime and it said that it comes with the connect online learning system but it did not! I needed it for my class so I had to return it.

I am very dissapointed in this seller B Edmonson this book was marked as nearly new never used and the book that was sent to me has the labs for each chapter torn out! I now have to buy a new book with the labs in it! Make sure you dont need the whole book when shopping from this buyer!

A beautiful new field guide to the flowering plants of Britain and Ireland

I confess to being a field guide addict, so when I this new Collins Flower Guide at the UK Birdfair, I knew I had to get it. The previous titles in this series - birds, butterflies and trees - are the definitive guides to their respective groups; indeed Collins Bird Guide in my opinion, sets the standard as the best field guide to an avifauna anywhere in the world. So despite the price, it was not hard to part with the money.

Having field-tested this book at the tail end of the flowering season, I am certainly not disappointed. The book is billed as "the most complete guide to the flowers of Britain and Europe", and it probably is. Some 1,900 species are described and the grasses and ferns are treated to full colour plates. The attractive features of the other guides in the Collins series - plates and text on a single spread, clear type-face and layout, compact form, excellent illustrations - are all here. The plates are particularly satisfying: beautifully painted, they look to be the most accurate yet included in a guide of this type. And, as in other plant guides, keys are provided as a more structured way to identify flowers.

But this book faces some pretty stiff competition, namely from Blamey, Fitter & Fitter's Wild Flowers of Britain and Ireland and Rose's Wild Flower Key. How does it stand up? I'm a sucker for Marjorie Blamey's illustrations, so I have most of her books and I love Wild Flowers of Britain and Ireland, not least as an armchair flora. Rose has long (at least for the quarter century since I took any botany classes) been recognised as the most accurate illustrated field flora - the botanist's guide of choice. Despite its fine illustrations and keys, I am not sure that this current guide can rival either of them. I took both Rose and the Collins guide out into Norfolk and ran several plants - tricky things like umbellifers and crucifers - through the keys and Rose performed flawlessly, whereas the new guide was a little murkier. Some of the illustrations are quite "washed out" or at least not as saturated as others, leading to some loss of details - notably in the Asteraceae in my copy. Opened the book at the oaks, I noticed that the Sessile Oak caption is missing - admittedly just a detail. In the end though, much as I warm to the new guide, I find that I am carrying Rose rather than the Collins guide into the field when I want a reference I can depend on. Perhaps it's just that when I pick up a guide, Rose fits more easily into my pocket and is a fair bit lighter.

In sum, this is a guide that the plant enthusiast will want to have, but if you already possess a trusted field guide like Rose, you may not want to pay for the more expensive new Collins Flower Guide, beautiful as the illustrations may be. Having said that, I have no regrets at having this handsome new field guide on my shelves - the more field guides the better.

A valuable book for any transport researcher

This book provides a thorough analysis in all facets of airport operations and provides the reader with a logistical insight that is unmatched. While the book provides a great overview, it lacks information particularly on air cargo development and facility planning at airports. While the growth in air cargo traffic significantly outpaces passenger growth, air cargo development issues at airports become more significant. Air cargo development issues must be addressed by airport authorities. This book only makes scant reference to this. However, "Airport Operations" is a valuable book to all airport authorities, consultants and transport researchers. No doubt, a very timely piece of information.

Although written primarily from the European and Asia Pacific Airport and Airline perspectives, the author has worked very hard to include North American issues and examples. As The Airport Industry moves continually towards privatization, these differences will move to the background and be less obvious; and less important. This is a great starting place for the researcher or the occasional affectionato

Thought-provoking Stories From a Little Girl Sitting on the Dirt Floor of a Tent

I can't imagine a more intimate portrayal of growing up on the lowest rung of the socio-economic ladder than the one presented in Meager Beginnings. This book is by a first-time author who pens her memoir in her 60's about growing up as dirt-poor, migrant farm workers in the 1940's and 50's. Imagine every story your grandparents ever told you about the hard times of their youth compressed into 300 pages. That's what you get out of this book. Humorous and eye-opening. I love this book!

The author and I are very close in age and I am now living close to where she was born and raised. Her experiences as a child were much harder than mine and yet I could identify with a lot of the things she wrote about. I enjoyed the childhood comparison.

Meet Bad Boy Robert Stone!

A good start to a new mini-series. Allison Shepard has just found herself demoted to a smaller advertising account because her last sales pitch fell flat. Allison had worked hard to climb up the ranks but one man ruined it all, Robert Stone.

Robert Stone has an over inflated ego, on top of his superiority complex. The man is truly an 'ass', nevertheless a hot ass. Robert had recently ended a relationship with a submissive, who turned out to be 'obnoxiously greedy'. He's ready for a real, challenging woman who may also be a potential sub. He gets his wish on a trip to Vegas, where he meets the woman from who he plucked away his last advertising conquest, Allison Shepard.

I really liked that the story is written in both POV's because get to know both characters. Robert Stone is a prick, although he is a good son who takes care of his mother. He comes across as an 'ass' with a major superiority complex. Robert has begun to realize he needs more, a real relationship, a challenging woman. Allison is conflicted, her life maybe at a turning point. I'm can't wait to read what will happen next. These two are destined for drama!

This is normally something I wouldn't read until fully published because 1. not a fan of cliffhangers and 2. way too short

BUT, Cynthia Sharon asked for my honest opinion sooooo stay tuned ...

OK...so here's the skinny *snickers* ... Cynthia Sharon has potential. There's obvious edit problems that bug me because she probably paid well to have this edited but that never influences my reviews. What does influence it is the writing style, the development, and overall voice of the story.

This wasn't perfect, in my opinion, the kiss was like reading a boy coming up to a girl in the school hall and stealing a kiss ...awkward lol and the orgasm felt out of place ... like it was just written in there with no lead to it, again awkward.

But I'll tell you what was good ... her development of not only the story (so far) and both Allison and Robert. I know where this is going, so that's a good sign. I don't know how it's going to get there, also a good sign because it makes it not predictable in a trope that's been done a thousand times before...hopefully all you future readers will understand what I'm trying to tell ya there LOL
The best part so far is the POV. It's in both Robert's and Allison's so I get to experience them both (always a plus) and Cynthia Sharon made sure I knew exactly who they were. She developed both Allison and Robert perfectly and told me just enough about each of them to hook me into ... cannot WAIT to read more ... that's potential kids.

SO one-click this installment ... it's not a full story, but you'll be hooked ;) #TRUST

A Very Entertaining Read - Well Done! Why Is This NOT a Best Seller Yet?!!

So my friend told me about this book. To be honest, this isn't my usual read... but I went ahead and bought it.

Ok, so let me just say... it's really good!

I have to warn you... don't start reading this book until you have enough time to read the entire thing. You won't want to put it down. It took me less than an hour... I felt like I was watching a movie.

Being that this is a short book, the author did surprisingly well in developing each character. The dialog was very natural and the story flowed really easily.

It was a very entertaining story. But I'm mad at the author... why? Because she left me wanting MORE!!! UGH! Now I have to go buy all her books! I can't wait to see what happens next!

Seriously everyone, the ebook is like a dollar! This is a really well done book... I believe the author needs to charge more for this quality work. Just please don't raise the price until AFTER I've bought them all. haha! I have no idea why this book isn't on Amazon's best seller list. It should be... truly a hidden gem.

I am now officially a fan of Cynthia Sharon.
