Lerner is the Bergstrom Chair in Applied Developmental Science and the Director of the Applied Developmental Science Institute in the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Development at Tufts University. A developmental psychologist, Lerner received a Ph.D. in 1971 from the City University of New York. He has been a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Psychological Association, and American Psychological Society. Prior to joining Tufts University, he held administrative posts at Michigan State University, Pennsylvania State University, and Boston College, where he was the Anita L. Brennan Professor of Education and the Director of the Center for Child, Family, and Community Partnerships. In 1994-95, he held the Tyner Eminent Scholar Chair in the Human Sciences at Florida State University. He is author or editor of 55 books and more than 360 scholarly articles and chapters. He edited Volume 1 ("Theoretical Models of Human Development") for the fifth edition of the "Handbook of Child Psychology". He is the founding editor of the "Journal of Research on Adolescence" and "Applied Developmental Science". He is known for his theory of, and research about, relations between life-span human development and contextual or ecological change. Lerner has done foundational studies of adolescents' relations with their peer, family, school, and community contexts and is a leader in the study of public policies and community-based programs aimed at the promotion of positive youth development. With Sage, he authored "America's Youth in Crisis: Challenges and Options for Programs and Policies" (1995), co-edited the four-volume "Handbook of Applied Developmental Science", and is co-editing the two-volume "Encyclopedia of Applied Developmental Science".

This text is an excellent resource for anyone interested in studying adolescent development. It is a compilation of foundational articles from key authors throughout the years. About the Author

Dean R. Appling is the Lester J. Reed Professor of Biochemistry and the Associate Dean for Research and Facilities for the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has taught and done research for the past 29 years. Dean earned his B.S. in Biology from Texas A&M University (1977) and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Vanderbilt University (1981). The Appling laboratory studies the organization and regulation of metabolic pathways in eukaryotes, focusing on folate-mediated one-carbon metabolism. The lab is particularly interested in understanding how one-carbon metabolism is organized in mitochondria, as these organelles are central players in many human diseases. In addition to coauthoring the 4th edition of Biochemistry, a textbook for majors and graduate students, Dean has published over 60 scientific papers and book chapters.

As much fun as writing a textbook might be, Dean would rather be outdoors. He is an avid fisherman and hiker. Recently, Dean and his wife, Maureen, have become entranced by the birds on the Texas coast. They were introduced to bird-watching by coauthor Chris Mathews and his wife Kate—an unintended consequence of writing textbooks!

Spencer J. Anthony-Cahill is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Western Washington University (WWU), Bellingham, WA. Spencer earned his B.A. in chemistry from Whitman College, and his Ph.D. in bioorganic chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley. His graduate work, in the laboratory of Peter Schultz, focused on the biosynthetic incorporation of unnatural amino acids into proteins. Spencer was an NIH postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of Bill DeGrado (then at DuPont Central Research), where he worked on de novo peptide design and the prediction of the tertiary structure of the HLH DNA-binding motif. He then worked for five years as a research scientist in the biotechnology industry, developingrecombinant hemoglobin as a treatment for acute blood loss. In 1997, Spencer decided to pursue his long-standing interest in teaching and moved to WWU, where he is today. In 2012 Spencer was recognized by WWU with the Peter J. Elich Award for Excellence in Teaching. Research in the Anthony-Cahill laboratory is directed at the protein engineering and structural biology of oxygen-binding proteins. The primary focus is on circular permutation of human b-globin as a means of developing a single-chain hemoglobin with desirable therapeutic properties as a blood replacement.

Outside the classroom and laboratory, Spencer is a great fan of the outdoors—especially the North Cascades and southeastern Utah, where he has often backpacked, camped, climbed, and mountain biked. He also plays electric bass (poorly) in a local blues–rock band and teaches Aikido in Bellingham.

Christopher K. Mathews is Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at Oregon State University. He earned his B.A. in chemistry from Reed College (1958) and Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Washington (1962). He served on the faculties of Yale University and the University of Arizona from 1963 until 1978, when he moved to Oregon State University as Chair of the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, a position he held until 2002. His major research interest is the enzymology and regulation of DNA precursor

metabolism and the intracellular coordination between deoxyribonucleotide synthesis and DNA replication. From 1984 to 1985, Dr. Mathews was an Eleanor Roosevelt International Cancer Fellow at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, and in 1994–1995 he held the Tage Erlander Guest Professorship at Stockholm University.

Dr. Mathews has published about 185 research papers, book chapters, and reviews dealing with molecular virology, metabolic regulation, nucleotide enzymology, and biochemical genetics. From 1964 until 2012 he was principal investigator on grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, and the Army Research Office. He is the author of Bacteriophage Biochemistry (1971) and coeditor of Bacteriophage T4 (1983) and Structural and Organizational Aspects of Metabolic Regulation (1990). He was lead author of four editions of

Biochemistry, a textbook for majors and graduate students. His teaching experience includes undergraduate, graduate, and medical school biochemistry courses. He has backpacked and floated the mountains and rivers,

respectively, of Oregon and the Northwest. As an enthusiastic birder he has served as President of the Audubon Society of Corvallis and is President of the Great Basin Society, which operates the Malheur Field

Station in eastern Oregon.

It's no Klein Organic Chemistry text but it does the job for a one semester course. Minute mistakes and lack of clarification here and there but lots of diagrams and illustrations to elucidate content. Be aware that my entire class had issues with the Mastering Chemistry code, requiring sorting out through customer service but did get eventual access to the online content. It may be worth it to buy used (sans code) and buy the code separately direct from Pearson's website if your professor requires it.

An amazing compendium

Just received my pre-order copy today and so far has exceeded my expectation tremendously! Jennifer Boylan's preface is both articulate and moving. This book is a bible of the transgender experience. It covers health, biology, psychology, history and politics and includes hundreds of voices of both professional and laypersons and many cultures that encompass the transgender experience. I am a physician who cares for transgender patients and Mom of a beautiful transgender daughter. I would recommend this book as a reference for any person is trans or who has an interest in trans issues for any reason. It should be in all health, psychology and sociology libraries. Frankly, I so wish this book had been published many years ago when my own daughter came out to me. It is a book whose time has come and is a powerful voice for this amazing community. Thank you Laura Erickson-Schroth for this resource!

Trans* Experiences by Experienced Trans*

This excellent resource could easily have been multiple books. It is the most comprehensive, in depth look at transgender people’s experience I have seen in my 10+ years as a Trans* ally and activist.

The 100+ page first section could stand by itself as a valuable insight into Trans* experience. It showed me how my cultural background, research, and advocacy within a small segment of the Trans* community was woefully inadequate to understand the full spectrum of their experiences. Every person’s experience is unique to them; similarly, there is no one “standard” way to live or be Trans*. This first section – Who we Are” – introduces us to the racial, ethnic, religious, and societal influences that interact with each person’s Trans* life and identity.

Section 2 – Living as Ourselves - forms a logical transition into the remainder of the book. The remaining major sections - Health and Wellness, Relationships and Families, Life Stages, and Claiming our power – flesh out virtually everything a transgender person may experience. The entire book is narrated in the first person by the editor. Direct quotes from survey respondents are interspersed with personal stories by various leaders in the struggle for recognition and acceptance. Segments on medical, health, legal, and social issues provide a general summary of these concerns; readers are referred to experts in their fields for additional situation-specific help.

Sidebar notes list a multitude of references and resources dealing with the subject of adjacent paragraphs, some of which were new to me. Annotated references to books and other resources are appended to each chapter, while a lengthy list of contributors is appended following the last section.

Who should have this book? Anyone who is transgender, in order to understand the complexity of their place in the world. Anyone who is or wishes to be an ally, so they can learn more about Trans* people and their needs and how to support them. Parents of gender non-conforming children, so they can take appropriate loving, supportive steps for their families. And there are many others; each of us who finds this book valuable will think of others we interact with who would benefit from this book.

While this is an invaluable resource for those who are transgender or gender non-conforming, it is also wonderful for trans allies to get complete view of what it means to be transgender, and to learn how to offer support and advocate.

The preface ends with "After 40 years, this is still the most important message I can send. Please share this book with others." I agree wholeheartedly.

As an avid fiction reader, I am beyond impressed with the level of writing and storytelling in this novel. I find the genre of lesbian fiction typically lacking in plot and complexity but The Red Files stands alone. This novel has NYT best seller quality. The lead characters have several levels of depth and backstory that defines their current actions and responses, and the supporting cast is equally interesting. The plot is fascinating, and depicts a real life scenario that could potentially be taking place right now under our noses without anybody really putting any focus on it. I hope this is the first of many novels from this author, as I was lost in her pages and didn't want to come back out. Such a fun read.

Heard about it, bought it and read it. It feels like when you drink really good coffee and you finish it up too soon but you still have that amazing taste after. Still processing it, but I can say that I really like it and I hope it becomes a saga, it definitely checks all the boxes for one. The heroines, the writing style, the subject and the subtle (or maybe not so subtle) hint of a cliffhanger. Winter makes sure to keep you on edge during the whole read, it's an interesting and exciting mystery story with likable and relatable characters. Even though the romantic part of it is a bit predictable (as it is in any similar book i.e Bourne-Marie) it never feels forced or trite. The only negative I see here is the art cover, I really hope they change it to something better on a 2nd edition. Also Hollywood should start looking at this as a potential film, it's time the world sees heroines on summer blockbusters.

4.5 stars for the box set of the storm series 1-5. Tessa Aubrey left her corporate life after the death of her beloved aunt and now owns a pizzeria in Nova Scotia. Tessa is existing in the town of Liverpool just running the business and living above the shop until a movie production comes to town. During a storm with the electricity out she grants none other than the beautiful Mr Banks shelter from the elements. Tessa is drawn to this man and regardless of the fact he is only in town for a short while during filming, she acts on her desires.

Timothy Banks is a Hollywood actor that has captured the hearts of women everywhere with his exceptional good looks and his enchanting British Accent. Tim is the kind of guy that takes his mother to awards shows and always has a nice thing to say. He is the small town boy that is down to earth / approachable and has not let any of his fame go to his head. There is always two sides to anyone in the spotlight and Tim is no exception. With Tim's flip side it mostly pertains to his needs in the bedroom. The man is hotter than the sun and is also part of the BDSM community as a Dom. Tim is not the strict protocols and 24/7 lifestyle but he is very alpha with what he expects from his partner sexually. Tessa will be no exception to this rule as he introduces her to what he likes and learns how to please her as well.

Tessa and Tim enter into a D/s relationship and things flourish rather brilliantly and quickly yet Tessa is still holding back pieces of herself and doubting exactly what this is while Tim has to overcome trust issues since he lives such a public life. They both realize that what they have is the real deal but how do you go about an intense, all-consuming relationship that has an expiration date?

So glad I was able to read this as a box set since the way the individual novellas ended would have left me dying until I could have read the next book. Loved the storyline and the characters that are flawed but very real. I will look for more from this author again.

Tessa has isolated herself since her Aunt's death. She has just gotten through each day and on to the next. Her business is good, she has friends and now she has a to weather a storm in her small town with a movie being filmed there. This is good for the whole town with all the media and production people.

Tim is filming his next movie in this small town. When he finds himself wet and cold one evening, one person gives him a warm place to dry his clothes and warm up, until she kicks him out of her apartment, due to a remark his assistant made.

Tessa and Tim get off on the wrong foot and end up spending time with one another but the media is relentless while following Tim. Tim is used to the media in his world, it's part of it, but when the media jump onto Tessa, he feels guilty that he has brought this into her world.

Both have pasts that bring them sadness and grief. Tessa finds herself dealing with the death and mourning of her aunts death, along with the media blitz with her Tim's relationship, but through it, she realizes, she is not alone, Tim is there being strong for them both.

The characters flow with one another, their past hurts, the time spent together is all real, no splendor of Hollywood, just being real with each other. Tim gives Tessa time and space to find her place again and Tessa can only hope Tim still wants a life with her.

Tim Banks is almost perfect!! Hot Dom!!

Timothy Banks, hot Hollywood actor. Tessa, former career-obsessed business consultant, now pizza and coffee shop owner. She’s running from her past, and has settled in a new town running her own business, and made a few new friends. One stormy night, a handsome actor knocks on her door, and her life changes immediately.

Tim is in town filming a movie, and happens upon Tessa’s pizza/coffee shop. Their attraction is immediate, and between movie takes, Tim attempts to woo Tessa. Tim is a Dominant, and although it surprises Tessa, she’s intrigued by Tim’s seemingly two sides—well-mannered, easy to talk to, funny and smart; in Dom mode, he’s brings out Tessa’s darker desires.

To me, Tim was the perfect combination of hard Dom, and sweet, kind, considerate big beautiful hunk of a man. Tessa was the girl who wasn’t impressed with the trappings of a famous guy that all the women would love to have. She had her own mind, and isn’t afraid to express it. She’s just what Tim wants and needs.

I loved the box set. It was a nice, hot and fun read. The story flowed great, and it seemed longer than it was. It didn’t feel like a group of short stories, but a nice novel.

I received this ARC for an honest review, and I give it 5 stars.
