Beware - Not the Melody Lines

I was looking for hymn melodies for Bb instruments. This book is NOT it. Although it does not say so, this book is for accompaniment, and not solo melody lines.

Mastering damaged

The first story “Indebted” had me hooked on this series. It’s darkness with a penlight that gets brighter and brighter as you go on the journey. The books in the series must be read in their order for the reader to get the most out each story. In fact, “Inevitable” is part II of “indebted”, the stories of Bree and Zerro. Characters: Devon and Jared are introduced to the reader in “Indebted”. “Invincible” is Devon and Tegan’s story and “Injustice” is Jared and Isabella’s story. “Infringed” is a short story about Bree and Zerro that the author should not have bothered to write. I would rate that tale a zero. I also didn’t enjoy “Invincible”. It was my first disappointment in the series. Devon and Tegan were in a cycle of whining that got on my nerves. Additionally, it demeaned Devon’s swag. Devon is supposed to the child of drug dealers who leaves his small town to join the FBI where he becomes masterful in his trade. Yet, he made one amateur mistake after another in “Invincible”. I kept rolling my eyes in disbelief throughout the read. The big showdown moments were not surprising but it felt like the author thought herself shocking or surprising her readers with climatic scenes. I knew how the characters would get out the mess and I knew very early in the read the identity of the boss behind Tegan’s mess. The discovery of the FBI boss’ hand in Devon and Tegan’s lives was a very pleasant blindside. Don’t get me started with the countless times that I thought “you got to be kidding me” and “give me a break” with Tegan’s storyline. Yet I rated this box set with 4 stars because “Indebted”, “Inevitable” hit it out of the park while “Injustice” was a bases loaded play. Those stories make the series a must read. The stories are not cut from the same formula. Each reads like a totally different tale with its own plot / concept. “Indebted” and “Inevitable” have extreme gangster violence wrapped in suspense with unpredictable twists and turns; but, is a love story with some hot sex scenes. “Injustice” has similar themes of redemption, personal growth, and the power of love from the right woman that is found in Zerro and Bree’s story. I definitely recommend this box set. It is definitely worth more than I paid for it on Amazon; I feel like I got 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton sheet set for $1.00.

I just couldn't continue on with this. There was just nothing here that truly grabbed me, or managed to hold my attention for long with these stories or characters.

I'm honestly surprised I read for as long as I did. I finally decided to just stop in the middle of the 3rd book of this 5 volume book series.

So I don't see myself returning here.

I'm just glad this set only cost me $1.00.

Basically I wasn't feeling the simpleton approach here. Given the circumstances & what is occurring with these people. How dangerous things are, they were resolved in a very easy way. Even with how things played out. This approach/resolution just didn't match the circumstances & reasons of why we're witnessing certain things. I just couldn't believe it, nor could I get behind it.

And the fact that the characters didn't really inspire me to care about them or their plights, didn't help either.

As good as it gets

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this set of excellent desperation stories. I had previously read some of William's stories online, but was pleased to find mostly new (at least to me) work in this collection. I love how he paints his scenes and how he manages to pull you into each and every story line.

I especially like those stories in which he makes you part of the intimate desperation exchanges of couples, and the many secret and overt ways a wife or girlfriend can, seemingly out of the blue, make your innermost, deepest fantasies come to life. To me, these fly-on-the-wall type of stories are the best and I've not encountered them written much better than in this book.

I'm eagerly awaiting the next installments in the series and wholeheartedly recommend anyone interested in romantic desperation to pick this one up. Five stars!

A Must for Directors, New and Experienced

David Ball's book on script analysis should be read and understood by anyone who directs plays. He explains how to read a play through the very simple technique of reading it from start to finish--and then backwards, from finish to start. By doing so, he points out, the reader learns how one scene leads logically and progressively to the next. While the concept is simple and straightforward, you have to read Ball's book to see how this process can be used to ferret out every important detail of plot and character development.

Demystifying the Playwriting Process

David Ball's book is a must-have for all students and professors of theatre. It demystifies the playwriting process and presents a simple, down-to-earth explanation of why a playscript works the way it does. In a word, it explains how scripts work. I find the deceptively simple explanations help the novices in my Introduction to Theatre classes understand how playscripts are put together and make a fun game of script analysis for these students--a concept that is often hard to communicate to Intro students. At the same time, it make so much sense that it becomes the cornerstone for Beginning Directing, Playwriting, and Script Analysis students. Students whom I teach using Ball's ideas always come through the semester with a lot of self-esteem because having such a solid cornerstone allows their creativity to take off in unexpected directions.

An eye-opener for writers, readers, and play- & movie-goers

A friend who teachs drama and directing at a local college recommended this book to me after he'd read a script I'd written. Not only is it a fast and interesting read, it offers simple and sometimes brilliant techniques for understanding and evaluating plays, movies, and even books. Even if you never plan to act or write, this well-written little book will enhance your appreciation of good story-telling. And if you ever had to endure discussions of "Hamlet" in high-school or college, you'll likely be surprised by Ball's unique take on the character as an example of dramatic writing.

Then there are chapters on the buckling of shells, on vibration, and on the application of plastic theory to analysis and design.
